Street parties, motorcades, but also incidents: Erdogan's victory in the 2023 Turkish election was also celebrated in the streets of several cities in Baden-Württemberg. As tagesschau.de reported, citing the police, a group of people attacked a car in Stuttgart that was riding in a parade. Then followed an altercation, three people were injured by knife wounds. One person would even have been in mortal danger for a short time.

Now the police would investigate on suspicion of attempted homicide. At least 150 cars took part in the parade in Stuttgart on the occasion of Erdogan's election victory. Some of the cars were pelted with bottles and stones. The police would have had to file 13 criminal complaints because of this.

Celebrations in Baden-Württemberg for Erdogan's election victory degenerate: police officers thrown at, pyrotechnics in use

Officials had been thrown at, but they were not aware of any injuries. Because of a video in the social networks, however, would be investigated. Completely paralyzed in places.

"Overhearing rejection of our pluralistic democracy": Özdemir (Greens) settles accounts with motorcades for Erdogan

Meanwhile, the voting behavior and the subsequent celebrations of Erdogan supporters were criticized by Cem Özdemir (Greens). The Baden-Württemberg Green politician and Federal Minister of Agriculture spoke of local supporters of Erdogan, who would not have to answer for the consequences of the election – in contrast to the people in Turkey, who would continue to be confronted with "poverty and lack of freedom".

But Özdemir also knew how to comment on the motorcades as a result of Erdogan's election victory. In this context, the Green politician spoke of "an unmistakable rejection of our pluralistic democracy and testimony to our failure among them. It is no longer possible to overlook it," says Özdemir.

Baden-Württemberg's Finance Minister Danyal Bayaz (Greens) expressed a similar view. "Motorcades on German streets celebrating Erdogan's election victory. How bitter this must feel for the 50 percent of people in Turkey who long for a return to democracy, the rule of law and freedom of expression – and who are denied exactly that by voters from Germany," the politician said on Twitter.
