The Russian military launched a major missile attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Monday after an earlier barrage fired by the Russians overnight hit civilian targets and a military airfield in the west of the country.
Residents of the Ukrainian capital reported explosions and missile trails over the capital, and footage posted on social media showed explosions of air defense systems over the city. Several photos of shrapnel and parts of intercepted missiles on city streets were also posted on social media.

Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ignat announced that Russia carried out an attack in broad daylight using ballistic missiles as well as anti-aircraft missiles that Russia fires as medium-range missiles.
Overnight, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired 37 cruise missiles and 29 suicide drones at Ukrainian territory. Several civilian targets were hit. In addition, the Ukrainians announced that a military airfield was attacked near the city of Khmelnytskyi. Five military planes were damaged in the airstrike and a large fuel depot.
