Javier Yacuzzi, former player of Arsenal de Sarandí, died in the last hours in Mexico at the age of 43 as a result of a virus he had contracted days ago. The former defender, who played as a side marker, was part of the coaching staff of Gallos de Querétaro, where he served as Mauro Gerk's field assistant.
"Arsenal deeply regrets the passing of Javier Yacuzzi, champion of the 2007 Copa Sudamericana and Suruga Bank 2008. We send our condolences to their families and loved ones. Rest in peace, Yacu," reads the tweet posted by Sarandí's club.
Emerged in the lower divisions of Platense, where he debuted in the old Primera B Nacional, Yacuzzi went through Tigre, Gimnasia y Esgrima de Concepción del Uruguay and Tiro Federal – he was champion in the highest category of the ascent – before landing at Arsenal, where he lived the peak of his career as part of the squad that won the Copa Sudamericana 2007 and the Suruga Bank 2008.
In 2010, after five seasons at the Avellaneda club, he went to Tijuana in Mexico and then returned to Argentina where he defended the colors of Huracán. In mid-2013 he returned to the B Nacional to play in Rosario Central and later moved to Defensa y Justicia. His last cartridges were spent in General Rojo Unión Deportiva, Matienzo de Villa Ramallo and the Somisa club of San Nicolás.
