Johnny Depp announced on his Instagram account that he fractured his ankle and that, consequently, he will cancel his US shows with his rock band Hollywood Vampires.
The 59-year-old actor returned from the Cannes Film Festival, which he attended to present his latest film, and his foot worsened.
"My dear friends. I'm sorry to say I broke my ankle. It's a drag! It started as a small break, but somewhere between Cannes and the Royal Albert Hall it got worse instead of better," begins the statement he made in stories.
The message Depp shared on his Instagram.
He continues: "Several medical professionals strongly suggested that I avoid any activity for the time being and unfortunately I cannot travel."
Depp and his band canceled shows in New Hampshire, Boston and New York and apologized to fans who had bought tickets.
Reactions
Unsurprisingly, many of his fans expressed their concern on social media.
"You know how much Jeff Beck means to Johnny Depp when Johnny performed at his tribute concert with a fractured ankle because he needed to honor and say goodbye to Jeff. I know, for his fans he hoped he wouldn't have to reschedule the Hollywood Vampires tour, but his health is the priority," one person tweeted.
Another, in the same vein, said: "Hoping that he rests and recovers as soon as possible."
Your stay in Cannes
Depp starred at the opening of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. The actor sealed his triumphant return to the screens by receiving seven minutes of ovation when presenting Jeanne du Barry, the film in which he plays Louis XV.

Maïwenn's film opened the "world of cinema" that ended on Saturday on the French coast. The focus of the opening was not on the direction or the story of the film: it focused, unsurprisingly, on Depp.
The actor was very moved to hear the applause they dedicated to him, greeted his fans from a balcony and spent several minutes photographing himself among dozens of followers who approached him on the red carpet.

Maïwenn, director and star of the film, said: "It was a difficult production to finance and I want to share this moment with my whole team."
Jeanne du Barry is the first film in which Depp worked after living a convulsed 2022. Recall that last year, the actor and his ex-wife Amber Heard starred in a fierce trial that exceeded the limits of the media.
According to specialized media such as Variety, the French director summoned Depp when the trial was already over.
Hollywood Vampires
Hollywood Vampires is a rock band founded in 2015 by singer Alice Cooper, Depp and guitarist Joe Perry to pay tribute to the stars who died in the seventies. Also part of the band is American guitarist Tommy Henriksen.

So far they only have two studio albums, Hollywood Vampires (205) and Rise (2019). The first featured the participation of Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Joe Walsh and Christopher Lee, among others.
In the band, Depp plays guitar, keyboards and does backing vocals.
