A "moderate" earthquake of magnitude 4 occurred Monday night in the region of Montbéliard (Doubs), near the Swiss border, announced the National Seismic Monitoring Network (Renass) which did not report damage. The earthquake occurred around 21:15 p.m. (local time) about fifteen km south of the Franche-Comté city and at a depth of 12 kilometers.
According to the sixty testimonies collected Monday evening by the French Central Seismological Bureau, the tremors were mainly felt in the region of Montbéliard and Belfort, as well as in Alsace and the Vosges.
On 22 March, a magnitude 4.2 earthquake had already occurred in the same area, 30 km from the city of Belfort, and was felt in northwestern Switzerland.
