A 20-year-old man, suspected of having stabbed a septuagenarian in early May at his home in Pau, was indicted for murder and placed in pretrial detention, announced Monday the prosecutor's office in a statement. Sunday, around 13:00, the man presented himself "spontaneously" at the police station of Pau, where he was placed in judicial detention on the basis of the arrest warrant, writes the prosecutor of the Republic of Pau, Rodolphe Jarry.
This agricultural worker residing in the Lot-et-Garonne "has not made any statement on the merits," says the magistrate, who does not give more elements as to the motive of the latter. Investigations are continuing under the authority of an investigating judge to determine the exact circumstances of the murder. "It will be in particular to collect the precise statements of the accused as to the facts," says Rodolphe Jarry.

The body of the victim, born in 1952, was found at his apartment in the priority district of Ousse-des-Bois in Pau, shortly after 20 p.m., following an alert given by his daughter, worried not to have news. The autopsy established that the death, which occurred between Saturday, April 29 and Monday, May 1, was "consecutive to several penetrating wounds in the chest and abdomen," says the magistrate. The victim received "59 wounds by a sharp or prickly object, including 28 in depth," according to the prosecutor's office.
The respondent, who surrendered on Sunday, had been filmed by video surveillance entering the victim's building before coming out less than an hour later, throwing a knife 13 cm long. The object was later found by investigators of the judicial police in a nearby body of water.
