Ukraine's military intelligence chief warned Russia on Monday of a swift response after firing barrages of missiles at the country in the middle of the day. General Kyrylo Budanov said this morning's attacks failed to frighten people in Kyiv. According to officials, all missiles were intercepted and there were no reports of casualties.
Today's attack follows two nights of drone attacks on the capital and more than a dozen this month. However, today's attack was unusual because it occurred in broad daylight. "Anyone who tries to scare us, dreams that it will have any effect, you will regret it very soon," Budanov said. "Our answer will come soon."
A video posted on Twitter by Olena Zelenska, Ukraine's first lady, during the attacks shows schoolchildren screaming in terror and fleeing to nearby bomb shelters as missiles continue to fall and sirens go off. The children can be seen running in fear and covering their heads with their hands at the sound of an explosion in a nearby street.

The children were joined by frightened residents who rushed to take cover at the sound of explosions and sirens, hours after another night of attacks on Kyiv.
Zelenska wrote: "Kyiv. The morning after a sleepless night under fire. The anxieties return... Children running and screaming on the way to the shelter with the sound of explosions in the background. But it should not be so - nowhere. It is impossible to extinguish fear - but we will not stop, we will act. Ukraine will continue to fight."
Zelensky shared the post, adding: "Glory to all our fighters who defend Ukraine. Thank you to everyone around the world who help protect people and children from Russian terrorism."
Russia used long-range Iskander missiles in the attack this morning, a Ukrainian air force spokesman said on local television. The missiles were launched north of Kyiv, Yuri Int said. Kyiv is 380 km from the Russian border.
