Highlights: Video taken from a news helicopter captured the chilling moment a local police volunteer collapsed to the ground after being repeatedly stung by a swarm of angry bees. Police put the neighborhood under lockdown and ordered residents to stay indoors with all doors and windows closed until beekeepers and bee experts arrived to remove the insects. It is estimated that all the rioting bees came from one large hive that was in a house in the neighborhood that was under renovation. A bee expert speculated that the workers working on the property may have gotten too close to the hive, causing hundreds, perhaps thousands, of bees to run wild.

Video taken from a news helicopter captured the chilling moment a local police volunteer collapsed to the ground after being repeatedly stung by a swarm of angry bees that terrorized a Los Angeles neighborhood.

Fox's SkyFox was over the Encino neighborhood last Monday afternoon when it caught the dramatic bee attack. A volunteer in a Los Angeles Police Department uniform can be seen trying to get into his vehicle when the bees attacked him. The footage shows the man in a frenzy pounding into the air to keep the insects buzzing around his face away and desperately trying to get away from them.

After being stung repeatedly, he loses his balance and falls to the ground, banging his head with asphalt, resulting in numerous cuts. The volunteer officer is then seen moving his legs and struggling to lift himself back up

"It's not normal for bees to be so angry and want to kill you," Isaac Harzi of All Valley Honey & Bee, an insect control company called in to help with the situation, told CBS News Los Angeles. Harzi also described the cloud of hundreds of bees as "the craziest thing that can be."

LAPD police said the volunteer was hospitalized in stable condition after being stung dozens of times. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, another person working on a house in the area also suffered multiple bee stings.
