Large forces of Northern District police and Border Police fighters operated Monday morning in the city of Nazareth and Kaabia Tabash against the Bakri criminal gang. Sixteen suspects were detained on suspicion of involvement in violent incidents due to a conflict between criminals.
The name of the Bakri crime gang has been linked to criminal activity in northern Israel. The gang collects, among other things, protection money, extortion, numerous violent incidents and shootings, and is suspected of being linked to brutal murders in recent years.

The complex operation this morning included Border Police North and Special Patrol Unit soldiers, a helicopter from the police aerial system, and canines who raided a number of targets, including a penthouse in Nazareth and other hiding places in the villages of Kaabia and Nazareth.
During the operation, motorcycles, vehicles, a large quantity of gold, and checks and cash amounting to over a million shekels were seized, which were allegedly received as part of criminal activity.

In addition, during the operation, infrastructure built illegally and in public areas, including walls, gates and cameras, was dismantled.
The suspects will be brought to the Nazareth Magistrate's Court later in the day with a request by the police to extend their detention.
