Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man in the occupied West Bank on Monday, the Palestinian Health Ministry said, with the Israeli army citing exchanges of fire during a raid it was carrying out in the territory.
Ashraf Mohammed Ibrahim, 37, was "shot dead by the Israeli occupation" in the northern occupied West Bank city of Jenin, according to the Palestinian ministry. Ibrahim was a Palestinian intelligence officer, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.
The Israeli army said "suspects opened heavy fire on the soldiers, who responded by shooting at the gunmen" in Jenin. "In addition, suspects threw explosive devices at Israeli forces," the army said in a statement. Palestinian prisoners' advocacy groups reported six arrests in Jenin, the scene of repeated Israeli raids.
Since the beginning of the year, at least 155 Palestinians, 20 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian have been killed in violence linked to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to an AFP tally compiled from official Israeli and Palestinian sources.
These statistics include, on the Palestinian side, combatants and civilians, including minors, and on the Israeli side, the majority of whom are civilians, including minors, and three members of the Arab minority.
