Summary. On the morning of Sunday, June 5, 1983, the newspaper L'Équipe headlined: "50 million Noah!" On this day, the whole France holds its breath. Yannick Noah will face Sweden's Mats Wilander in the final of Roland-Garros to try to succeed Marcel Bernard, the last French winner in 1946.

After 2h25 of fierce play against the defending champion Mats Wilander, Yannick Noah wins 6-2, 7-5, 7-6 and wins the grail. Kneeling on the ground, the 23-year-old Frenchman exults in front of the 15,000 spectators on Centre Court who rush to invade the field. A victory synonymous with deliverance after a tournament with many twists and turns.
