The France on Tuesday (May 30th) expressed its "deepest concerns" about Uganda's anti-homosexuality law that provides for heavy penalties for same-sex relations, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Faced with this "serious violation of Uganda's human rights and international commitments, including the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights", Paris "calls on the Ugandan authorities to abandon this law and expresses its support for all 'LGBT' people in Uganda," said the spokesperson for the Quai d'Orsay.

Among other international protests, US President Joe Biden also denounced on Monday, May 30, a "tragic attack" on human rights and is studying the consequences of this law on "all aspects of cooperation between the United States and Uganda", including aid and investment, according to a statement from the White House.
This law enjoys broad popular support and opposition reactions have been rare in the country, ruled with an iron fist since 1986 by Yoweri Museveni.
