Israeli President Isaac Herzog met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Tuesday. The president was received in the capital Baku at a state reception ceremony, during which the national anthem "Hatikvah" was played. The presidents then held a diplomatic meeting.
During their meeting, the presidents discussed bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the countries. After the meeting, an extended meeting was held with the participation of both delegations. The presidents then made statements to the media. Herzog thanked his Azeri counterpart and invited him and his wife to visit Israel, "as a symbol of the amazing friendship between us that has developed over the years."

Herzog continued, "Our shared strategy and vision is based on doing good, through honest and open dialogue between Jews and Muslims, a vision that can be dreamed of and shown. It is no secret that your country is Muslim with a majority of Shiite tenets, yet the love and affection between our countries sets an example of how we can change the world and move forward."
President Herzog also stressed the Iranian threat. "We are looking at the regional-security structure that is threatened by Iran, an issue that we have discussed in depth, and we look forward to developing our cooperation in many areas such as academia, agriculture and many other fields," he said in his speech.

Azerbaijani President Aliyev congratulated Herzog and said his visit "demonstrates our closeness and partnership." He added, "The opening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Israel this year will make it possible to raise ties with Israel to further heights, while at the same time creating additional opportunities for closer interaction between the two peoples."
Moreover, during the visit, the health ministers of Israel and Azerbaijan signed a cooperation agreement between the health ministries of the two countries. The agreement signed by Minister Moshe Arbel includes a plan for cooperation between the Ministries of Health of Israel and Azerbaijan for the years 2028-2023, in the fields of digital health; pediatrics; Oncology; emergency preparedness; Leading innovation in hospitals and community medicine. President Herzog welcomed this, "The joint signature of the health ministers that occurred earlier is an example of how extensive cooperation we have."
