"Miss the cry for help": Municipality reaps criticism for relocation of the tourist information office

2023-05-30T11:51:46.108Z

Highlights: The tourist information office in Bad Kohlgrub is moving to the guest's house. But not every citizen likes this - for various reasons. The topic is also related to the future of the building complex in the centre of the village – i.e. the Kurhaus and the Haus des Gastes. The relocation of the spa administration is not the responsibility of the managing director of the Ammergau Alps, "but the mayor and municipal council," says mayor Franz Degele. The planned opening on June 1 will be postponed.

The tourist information office in Bad Kohlgrub leaves the guest's house. And soon. But not every citizen likes this - for various reasons.

Bad Kohlgrub – The bomb explodes at the end. Around 22 p.m., two hours after the start of the citizens' meeting, Martin Doll takes the floor. Actually, he wanted to refrain from his criticism, but the relocation of the Tourist Information Office (TI) from the Haus des Gastes to the former Sparkasse building annoys him too much. Without involving the citizens, facts have been created.

"I miss the cry for help," says the Bad Kohlgruber indignantly. For example, from the MoorSymphonie, the community of hosts, doctors, restaurateurs, trade and craftsmen. Doll shows the way. He raises his voice that evening in the Kursaal and finds a few like-minded people.

Buildings with a "bad reputation"

The local, who worked for the municipality for 33 years until retirement, considers the new location to be unsuitable. "No Kohlgruber would move into the building," he complains. "It has a bad reputation." Carpenter Josef Burkart can only agree with this. He does not understand why the TI, i.e. the former spa administration, had to relocate. "That's not inviting for the guest," he says. Especially since the property on St.-Martin-Straße has a poorer building fabric. Instead, he is pushing for a concept for the use of the guest's house. Schillingshof boss Randolf Thomas also leaves hardly a good hair on the new TI home. "Something has to be done about the whole ensemble." On the outside, the plaster would crumble, the parking situation would be poor and the visibility for holidaymakers would be insufficient.

On the other hand, he likes the inner workings of the TI. Frank Peters, Managing Director of Ammergauer Alpen GmbH, presented the new concept via animation at the beginning of the meeting and reported on the rental room, the sales corner and the innovative technology, among other things. The work is ongoing, "but we are a bit behind schedule". The planned opening on June 1 will be postponed, Peters announces. Without knowing that he will have to defend the project later.

But it is not location and disinformation alone that Doll and Co. criticize. After all, the topic is also related to the future of the building complex in the centre of the village – i.e. the Kurhaus and the Haus des Gastes. The relocation of the spa administration – which causes, among other things, further vacancies – is not the responsibility of the managing director of the Ammergau Alps, "but the mayor and municipal council," Doll interjects. He demands a statement from Degele – and only from him and not from Peters, who wants to get involved immediately.

Decisions made about the building complex in the city centre

The head of the town hall seems a bit surprised by the sharpness of the pitch, but explains the background as desired. Just over an hour earlier, in his report on the projects of the municipality, he informed those present – with the exception of the local councillors and employees, only about 40 interested people sit in the hall – about the latest developments. About the two resolutions recently taken by the municipal council. On the one hand, the volume of the entire complex with the spa park building, Haus des Gastes including the lobby and the town hall is to be reduced by 50 percent. The preservation of the spa park building with the help of a renovation has priority. For the remaining properties, it is necessary to create a concept. One in which an investor may play a role. Doll says reproachfully: "There is already talk of the demolition of the Wandelhalle."

The topic is close to the hearts of the citizens and has been emotionally charged for many years. Comparable to the Kongresshaus debate in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Degele knows that, but he has to tackle the cause pragmatically. "We have so many mandatory tasks, we have to decide which buildings to renovate and which to renovate later," he emphasizes. "We just don't have the money." He clarifies that a usage concept is being developed for the guest's house including the lobby, but this will take time. Time that Ammergauer Alpen GmbH can no longer wait. First and foremost because of the lack of technical equipment. In addition, Degele thinks it makes no sense to redesign the TI in the guest's house now only to have to overturn everything again later. The municipality and the GmbH prefer to take the opposite path.

Not invested for too long

Although the new location is currently a gain, Peters does not rule out a return to the old one. But first we have to know what happens there. "We can take everything back with us," says the managing director, who does not want to go uncommented on the debate and, above all, wants to clarify the situation in the guest's house. "These were no longer conditions to employ people there," he clarifies. A very logical consequence. "If nothing is invested for 30 years, then the chapter is finished." Anyone who has ever looked behind the scenes will confirm this, the tourism expert is convinced.

Peters doesn't want to poke around in the past, but wants to look ahead – to shape the future. Mutual reproaches would not help anyone.
