Historic mills, elegant vintage cars, home-brewed craft beer or exciting blacksmith demonstrations: The numerous visitors to the traditional Schwabsoiener Mühlentag were offered a varied and multifaceted program for the anniversary.

Schwabsoien – For three decades now, the Mill Day has been an integral part of Schwabsoien village life. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary on Whit Monday, numerous visitors once again flocked to the Schönach community. And the weather was also kind to the people of Schwabso this year: Bright sunshine and summer temperatures created ideal conditions for a mill day that could not be better imagined.

Interesting facts about grinding in the Pröbstl mill

If you were looking for a way to cool off at these temperatures, you found it in the historic walls of the Pröbstl grinding mill on Füssener Straße, among other places. Of course, there were also all sorts of interesting facts about grinding waiting for the visitors. For example, it was shown which work steps are needed to turn grain into flour. The equipment required for this in the functional Pröbstl mill, such as Trieur, Aspirateur or Elevator, could be inspected live and in color. Of course, with the appropriate expert explanations, so that even the layman knows what's going on.

The different types of wheat flour were explained

To the delight of the visitors, the threshing process was demonstrated right next to the mill. And anyone who has always wondered how wheat flour type 550 differs from wheat flour type 1050 could feel the difference in direct comparison. If, on the other hand, you were interested in which type of flour actually has the lowest fat content and thus has the most positive effect on the line, you were also helped.

For those who prefer hops and malt instead of wheat, the Ukrainians Maryna and Boris Rozdobudka, who now live in Schwabsoien, had a very special delicacy to offer: the home-brewed craft beer "Liberty". Two different variants could be tasted, the fruity "Nice Peach" and the classic "Barbados".

Quite a few of the visitors were captivated by the vintage cars, historic tractors or motorcycles on display. A fiery red speedster stood out in particular: The sports car with the sonorous name "Thurner RS" does not come from Italy, but is "made in Bernbeuren". The speedster takes its name from its builder Rudolf Thurner, who produced 1969 units in his workshop in Bernbeuren from 1974 to 121.

PS fans got their money's worth, but also the lovers of "Kunscht und Kruscht"

But not only PS fans, but also creative contemporaries who are enthusiastic about "Kunscht und Kruscht" got their money's worth at the Mill Day. For example, local artisans exhibited their self-made treasures. Even more creative things could be found in the former Gasthof Post, which Anke Firlefanz and her team transformed into a creative workshop.

The topic of forging was also an essential part of the Mill Day: for example, the Hammersmith Museum opened its doors. The master blacksmiths present demonstrated their craftsmanship and proved that forging can still be of great importance today. The carriage museum, where a carriage built in 1903 can be admired for the first time this year, as well as the Schwabsoien parish church of St. Stephen were also open.
