Bad Tölz – In autumn 2019, the city council made the decision in principle that the Josefistift will move to a new building on a greenfield site on General-Patton-Straße. What influenced the gut decision of many city councillors at the time was the idea that the old nursing home on Bahnhofstraße would be converted into a senior citizens' centre. This is also a return to the 270-year-old idea of the foundation: "Promotion of care for the elderly," said Tölz treasurer Silke Furmanek, who presented the state of affairs at the most recent meeting of the Tölz city council.

As is well known, in the summer of 2022, the concession to operate the nursing home was awarded to the bidding consortium Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband (operator) and "Schleich & Haberl Grundstücksgesellschaft 4 mbH" (investor). Subsequently, the "Paritätische Altenhilfe Bad Tölz gGmbH" was founded, which has been operating the Josefistift with the old staff since January 1, 2023.

Two million are available for conversion

The foundation itself is now only the lessor of the building. The sale of the municipal property on General Patton Street, where the investor wants to build, has also already been completed. In the fourth quarter of 2023, "Schleicht & Haberl" plans to submit the building application. In about four years, according to Furmanek, the relocation of the nursing home to the new building will probably take place.

Important: The city wants to invest the proceeds of the sale of the property in the amount of two million euros in the conversion to the new senior center on Bahnhofstraße. The money will be issued as a loan to the Josefispitalstiftung. Now it's a matter of developing ideas for the centre close to the old town. There are initial proposals. Silke Furmanek listed them: a meeting space and social meeting place (lunch table, café), contact point "Old and self-employed", day care or outpatient care, a daycare center and multi-generational house offers, intergenerational living concepts and – very importantly – employee housing.

Old building to become multifunctional senior citizens' centre

Now it is important to turn these ideas into a viable concept, the effectiveness of which, according to Furmanek, is based on the exemplary social center in the former Franciscan monastery. For this purpose, a working group has now been formed in which the previous representatives of the Josefistift advisory board sit: Mayor Ingo Mehner, René Mühlberger Anton Mayer (both CSU), Toni Kollmeier and Johanna Pfund (both Greens), Ulrike Bomhard and Michael Lindmair (both FWG) and Michael Ernst (SPD). From the city, the municipal social planner Franz Späth, a representative of the building authority and treasurer Silke Furmanek will participate. The latter also heads the working group, to which external organisations such as "Alt und Selbständig", "Paritätische Altenhilfe Bad Tölz", Landratsamt and AK Senioren can also be appointed. All this was decided unanimously without much discussion in the city council. The new working group is scheduled to meet for the first time this autumn. (By Christoph Schnitzer)
