Dießen introduces the open all-day school

2023-05-30T14:43:21.560Z

Highlights: The market town of Dießen is planning an open all-day school as early as autumn. The previous lunchtime care will be abolished, but the majority of its employees want to switch to the new system. A total of 121 children, including the 25 on the waiting list, will have to be cared for from autumn, which will require seven full-time positions. The offer is free of charge from Monday to Thursday until at least 14 p.m., only on Friday it is subject to a fee.

Dießen - While local councillor Michael Hofmann (BP) spoke out strictly against it, all other committee members were satisfied with the solution that was ultimately approved 19:1: From the coming school year, there will be open all-day care at the Carl Orff Primary School. Provided that the government of Upper Bavaria gives its okay, which is considered certain.

In anticipation of the legal regulation that will apply anyway from the 2026/2027 school year, Dießen is planning an open all-day school (OGTS) as early as autumn instead of the lunchtime care provided by the Förderverein. Rector Michael Kramer specifies: "Parents who have tried to find a lunch or full-day place until last March will also get one. Further registrations will not be possible until the 2024/2025 school year."

The cooperation partner and sponsor of the OGTS will be the market town of Dießen after the 19:1 decision in the most recent municipal council meeting. Only Michael Hofmann (Bavaria Party) warned before the vote that the children would "emotionally distance themselves from their parents" through all-day school. There is no need for independent afternoon activities, which can have a negative effect on the students' personal development and independence. Hofmann was unable to raise any further concerns, as he was thwarted by Mayor Sandra Perzul.

In return, Rector Michael Kramer emphasized that the OGTS will offer a varied program that includes both creative and sporting leisure activities as well as supportive learning opportunities and homework supervision. Parents should be sure that their children will receive high-quality care beyond regular lessons. The offer is free of charge from Monday to Thursday until at least 14 p.m. and at the latest until 15.30 p.m., only on Friday it is subject to a fee. A minimum of two booking days is required. For the 2024/2025 school year, holiday care is even being considered. The Carl Orff School will soon announce further information and the registration procedure. A parents' evening is also planned for the beginning of July.

Family and career

Mayor Sandra Perzul: "The introduction of OTGS at the Carl Orff Primary School is an important step towards reconciling family and career and strengthening the educational opportunities of our children."

With the introduction of the open all-day school, the previous lunchtime care will be abolished, but the majority of its employees want to switch to the new system. A total of 121 children, including the 25 on the waiting list, will have to be cared for from autumn, which will require seven full-time positions. For these personnel costs alone, the market town has to shell out around 320,000 euros annually. After all, 162,000 euros in subsidies from the Free State are expected.
