Three patients died Tuesday in a hospital fire in Austria, which caused the evacuation of about 90 patients, a spokeswoman for the facility in Mödling, south of Vienna, told AFP. "The cause of the disaster has not yet been determined with certainty," she said, while such incidents are very rare in the wealthy Alpine country of 9 million people.
The fire broke out around 1am (23 GMT Monday) in a room of the hospital and quickly spread, according to a statement from the Regional Health Agency.
Firefighters dispatched 33 vehicles and some 170 men. A Red Cross team also responded.
The fire was brought under control after two hours and the uninjured patients were transferred to other facilities. An investigation has been opened.
