The funeral of Maran Rabbi Gershon Edelstein, zt"k"l, is expected to take place today (Tuesday) at 15:30. The funeral procession, attended by hundreds of thousands, will begin at the Ponovizh Yeshiva and pass through the streets of Rabbi Akiva, Sokolov and Chazon Ish to the cemetery where the rabbi will be buried - Beit Chaim Panevezys.

The police are preparing for a large crowd of participants, roadblocks and huge traffic jams on the roads. In addition, an assessment meeting of the National Public Transportation Authority in the Ministry of Transport is being held, chaired by Deputy Transportation Minister Uri Maklev, together with the Police Command for the preparations of public transportation, the blocking of roads and roads leading to Bnei Brak. The streets of Rabbi Akiva and Chazon Ish will be blocked to traffic, but the roadblocks are expected to be very wide. Highway 4 is also expected to be blocked in some parts.

Reinforcement of trains and buses

Transportation Minister Miri Regev and her deputy Uri Maklev instructed National Public Transportation Authority Director Ran Shadmi and Israel Railways to reinforce public transportation to the funeral area.

According to the instructions, the intercity lines to Bnei Brak from the south will stop on Route 4 under the Givat Shmuel Bridge and at the end of the funeral will pick up at the opposite station on Route 4 southbound. In addition, the intercity service from the north will drop off on Route 4 under the Givat Shmuel Bridge, and at the end of the funeral they will pick up at the opposite station on Route 4 northbound. In addition, changes are expected in the routes of the municipal lines in the city of Bnei Brak, in accordance with the police blockades.

MDA teams are also prepared to provide medical security in cooperation with the rescue volunteers working in the field, who will be deployed in the field with reinforced forces, in order to provide an immediate medical response to any casualty who needs it.

Traffic arrangements, road closures and roads ahead of Rabbi Edelstein's funeral:

Entrances and exits in the city of Bnei Brak. The city will be closed to vehicles entering and exiting. Bnei Brak residents and visitors must prepare accordingly!

Hazon Ayesh Street in Bnei Brak along its entire length and all the roads leading to it.

Jabotinsky Street will be blocked from Ben Gurion Junction to Rabin Road. Roads leading to Jabotinsky will also be blocked to traffic.

Route 4, north and south, from Morasha Junction to Mishmar HaShiva interchange (traffic will be directed to Route 1 east/west).

Aluf Sadeh Interchange to Peace Road.

Em Hamoshavot Road from Ayalon Mall in both directions.

Traffic on Route 471 will be blocked in the direction of Route 4.

Traffic on Highway 1 will be blocked from the Ganot interchange to Highway 4 northbound and will be diverted to Highway 1 West.

Traffic on Highway 4 will be blocked from Ganot to the north and will be diverted to Highway 1 and Highway 44.

Traffic on Route 44 will be blocked from the Shiva interchange to Route 4 North and will be diverted to Route 1 west/east.

The ascent from Highway 461 from the Mesovim interchange to Highway 4 to the north will be blocked.

Route 461 from the Mesovim interchange to Highway 4 to the north.

The descent from Kiryat Onwagat Shmuel towards 471 will be blocked.

The junction of its gates towards 471 to the west.
