Arthur Wolfseher sits on the city council for the SPD. © Archive
Arthur Wolfseher votes against it conspicuously often in the city council. In an interview with our newspaper, the SPD council explains its reasons for this.
Geretsried – A funny situation arose at a meeting of the Building and Environment Committee. Franz Wirtensohn (CSU) was the only one to vote against a building application. Mayor Michael Müller (CSU), however, initially inadvertently put Arthur Wolfseher (SPD) on record, which contributed to the general amusement. After all, it feels like Wolfseher says "no" more often in meetings than all other city councillors. Editor Susanne Weiß asked the 62-year-old district chimney sweep why he is so often against it.
Mr. Wolfseher, why do you say "no" so often?
Wolf seer: Because I disagree with the majority. We always discuss the issues before the meetings in the group, and everyone says how they will decide. However, if there are other arguments or points of view in the meeting, it may be that I can vote in favour after all.
How do you decide if you are against it?
Wolf seer: If, in my opinion, not all the arguments are reliable, I lack information or I do not know the history, I will vote against. Even when in doubt, when I'm not sure if something is really right. And if I've voted against a project in a previous decision, I'll stick to it consistently. For example, I was not in favour of the new quarter on Banater Straße. Then, of course, I cannot agree to a later application for a pellet heating system.
In a city council meeting, you also voted against the general decree declaring Karl-Lederer-Platz a pedestrian zone.
Wolf seer: A meeting document was handed out that was not in advance in the Council information system. I can't read them and follow the course of the session at the same time. So I can't agree. Although it would be easier to vote with the masses than against.
Are you criticized for this?
Wolf seer: Sometimes I have to explain myself.

Fancy a voyage of discovery?
In your group or in front of other city councillors?
Wolf seer: Two. Sometimes it's not easy when everything has already been said in the meeting or I don't want to hurt anyone.
What do you appreciate? Do you vote more often for or against?
Wolf seer: Most of the time, I can already agree with the argument. But if you are well versed in some topics as an energy and environmental protection consultant, you cannot approve of some plans. And I also have a lot of contact with citizens, so I know how they feel about this or that idea.
What do you like to support with your voice?
Wolf seer: The topics of school, childcare, the environment, transport and affordable housing. It is important to me that something benefits the citizen, is good for the common good or contributes to a positive development of the city.
