Elisa Carrió knew several days ago that Jorge Macri, Minister of the City, was the candidate chosen by the PRO to compete for the head of Government against Martín Lousteau in the Buenos Aires internal of Together for Change. Therefore, the decision of Horacio Rodríguez Larreta did not surprise her and she decided to call for silence after the letter published by the mayor of Buenos Aires.
"The Civic Coalition made it clear who our candidate was, that he was a luxury candidate and the best to be head of government. I considered him the best candidate and with greater qualities," "Lilita" told his entourage, minutes after the officialization of Jorge Macri's candidacy.
"We accept a mechanism to designate the representative of this sector of Together for Change and, therefore, the result that emerges from that mechanism is accepted," he instructed his leaders, and told them that the Civic Coalition preserves unity within Together for Change, in the City, in the Province and at the country level.
Since the weekend, Carrio knew that the fate of his candidate was cast. He had had conversations with leaders of Uspallata, the seat of the Buenos Aires government, in which they had detailed how the numbers of the three pollsters chosen to define which PRO minister was going to be a candidate were going.
The teams of Fernán Quirós and Elisa Carrió met at the home of the leader of the Civic Coalition.
In the last 10 days, that initial support was translated into concrete facts: Quirós visited Lilita's house in Exaltación de la Cruz, recorded a spot with her, there were tours of the City together and she was in charge of pushing his potential designation. "Fernán is a luxury candidate," he said in his networks.
"With @FernanQuirosBA and the team of the Civic Coalition and the PRO of the City of Buenos Aires. Fernán is a luxury candidate. Today more than ever we must work as a team and build political friendship," he said on May 20.
The next day the spot they recorded together went viral: "We decide our future, let's choose the best. #JuntosSomosLaCiudad."
On the 22nd they toured together some Buenos Aires neighborhoods. "We met @FernanQuirosBA to talk about issues of the City, and we stayed chatting with the neighbors who walked through the neighborhood."
Beyond the decision contrary to his wishes, Carrió has already warned his entourage that they will not do anything to "further fragment the space" of Together for Change. In this way, he rejected the version that marked that the Minister of Health of Larreta could go outside the PRO in a list of the Civic Coalition.
"We believe that the unity of the space that we not only integrated, but that we founded in 2015, must be preserved," Lilita said.
