China is facing a new wave of corona. This leads to several million new infections every day.
Frankfurt – China is fighting a new wave of the coronavirus. According to reports from the Chinese Health Commission, millions of new coronavirus infections occur every day throughout the national territory.
According to dpa, leading Chinese epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan expects around 65 million new infections per week to be expected at the end of June. This, according to the expert, could draw the peak of the wave. According to state media, he currently expects around 40 million infections a week. The government is therefore taking action.
China fights against new corona wave – and warns risk groups
Already at the end of last year, experts warned of declining immunity. Back in December, China had already experienced an enormous corona wave in which around 80 to 90 percent of all citizens were infected. The government itself did not publish official figures on deaths, but according to estimates by foreign experts, around one million people are likely to have died due to the coronavirus in winter. Several reports show that the crematoria were sometimes overwhelmed as a result.

At the beginning of December, China, which had recently appointed a new prime minister, suddenly ended the strict corona measures without hospitals being prepared. With the new corona wave, however, Nanshan does not expect the virus to spread again as it did in winter. Nevertheless, the health authorities have issued official warnings to risk groups. Schools have also already been warned to be careful with the virus.
China approves two new vaccines against XXB Omicron variant
After all, those affected by the disease could hope to experience less severe symptoms if they were already infected in winter, according to experts from state media. The government also announced that two new vaccines against the dominant XXB Omicron variant had now been approved. An exact time when he will be vaccinated has not yet been determined.
What are the current entry requirements for China?
It was only at the end of April that China relaxed entry requirements with regard to the coronavirus. Since 29 April, according to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Federal Republic of Germany, travellers only need "a self-administered COVID-19 rapid test for boarding, which was carried out within 48 hours before departure". The obligation to provide proof of a negative PCR test was thus eliminated.
So far, these rules are up-to-date, as China would continue to adhere to the current strategy. However, the National Health Commission explains that for travelers, regardless of their nationality and regardless of any vaccination or recovery, they could be subject to routine infection control at their point of arrival. "Passengers whose health declaration and control result are inconspicuous may continue their journey to their destination without restrictions".
