Kaufering – The Red Hocks are entering their eleventh season in the first floorball Bundesliga with a new head coach. Markus Heinzelmann has relinquished his coaching post at his own request after four seasons. His successor: Daniel Nustedt (29), who played for the Red Hocks in the Bundesliga between 2015 and 2017 and made eleven appearances. Most recently, Nustedt worked as a player-coach in the regional league at TV Augsburg. Now he is taking up his first Bundesliga coaching position.

KREISBOTE: Welcome back to Kaufering – now in a new position. What made you decide to take over the Red Hocks as head coach?

Nustedt: "I have always had a great passion for our sport with Kaufering. Everyone is ready to give everything for the sport and the club. Even as a player, I learned to appreciate this family environment. When the opportunity arose to work in this environment again, it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to take on the new task."

Speaking of the coaching team: Who else is on board besides you?

Nustedt: "The staff has been completely reorganized. Christoph Huber will support me at my side. He lives and breathes the club and has gained a lot of experience as head coach of Kaufering and as assistant coach of the German national team. The coaching team is complemented by Shouei Yiu and Kirena Müller, with whom I have already been able to work very successfully over the last three years."

How promising do you think the new line-up is for the new season?

Nustedt: "For me, the staff is an exciting mix of valued companions and new initiators with a wealth of experience, which in total represents a promising constellation for the future. But it's also clear that certain processes have to be found first."

You've also worn the Kauferinger jersey in the Bundesliga yourself. What other experiences have you gained in your floorball career?

Nustedt: "I've been working as a coach for almost eight years now and have experienced various stations, age groups and game situations. Starting with the establishment of a club in Augsburg and the coaching of the men's team to the instructive time as a South German selection coach. However, I have gained a lot of experience through conversations with some interesting coaches and players as well as from the impressions of numerous internships. Experience as a player-coach has also given me the opportunity to experience new ideas or individual tactical topics directly for myself."

You've already started your pre-season preparations. What is your first impression of the team?

Nustedt: "I know the individual players and their abilities very well. I see a lot of potential in the team, which my coaching staff and I want to continue to exploit with the boys."

What is the pre-season schedule?

Nustedt: "We've already started pre-season because we have a lot of topics that we want to work on with the guys in the run-up to the new season. The aim of the pre-season is to prepare the team for any challenges in the best possible way. To this end, we have scheduled some test matches and tournament participations for the coming months in order to challenge the boys under competition conditions at an early stage. With regular performance diagnostic tests, we also want to focus on physical skills in preparation."

How does the team change compared to last season?

Nustedt: "After it became clear relatively quickly that our foreign players would no longer be available, we are now of course looking for reinforcements. Some perspective players from the Kaufering youth team can recommend themselves for the Bundesliga squad in pre-season. In addition, one or two established, seasoned players have decided to cut back in the future, so we have to strengthen the squad in almost all parts of the team."
