Pfarrheim Miesbach: Subsidy yes, but not for the Ordinariate

2023-05-30T09:01:55.407Z

Highlights: The city of Miesbach is voluntarily supporting the construction of the new Catholic parish home with 10,000 euros. This corresponds exactly to the amount that the Protestant parish received for the renovation and expansion of their home. Two proposals were put to the vote: one as a grant to the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Munich or as a donation to the Catholic Church Foundation in Miesach. The vote was in favour of the direct payment to the parish, but not to the Ord in Munich.

Even if the city treasury is empty, the city of Miesbach is voluntarily supporting the construction of the new Catholic parish home with 10,000 euros. This was decided by the city council at its most recent meeting. This corresponds exactly to the amount that the Protestant parish received for the renovation and expansion.

Miesbach – The motion was already on the agenda in March, but the city had postponed the issue because of the budget that had not yet been finalized. Now the financial framework is fixed. Two proposals were put to the vote: one as a grant to the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Munich or as a donation to the Catholic Church Foundation in Miesbach. The proposal to provide targeted support to the local church community had been introduced at the previous meeting.

Kick van Walbeek (Greens) now contradicted the claim made at the time that the Catholic Church was swimming in money: "The new building in Holzkirchen will be the last for a long time." She also has no problem with the money going to the Ordinariate, "because after all, that was also the client".

Florian Hupfauer (FDP) disagreed. The only reason why he agrees to a subsidy is the new exercise room for the kindergarten children. The EUR 10 000 should be used for its outstanding equipment, which he put forward as the third proposal for a resolution. Because of the budget situation, he refuses to make a payment to the Ordinariate.

Who is the better recipient?

Paul Fertl (SPD) reminded the city council that the Miesbach parish had to make a contribution to the construction costs. Therefore, a payment to the church community makes more sense. Third citizen Franz Mayer (CSU) commented whimsically: "The federal government also pays two-thirds of our children's home, and yet I would not donate to it." It is right to treat both churches equally, but the money should remain in Miesbach.

This was also supported by Inge Jooß (SPD), who pointed out that the churches provide many rooms for the general public: "The new rectory is a contribution for the entire city."

In the vote, the direct payment to the parish prevailed against the votes of Hupfauer and Markus Baumgartner (CSU). Only van Walbeek had previously voted in favour of the payment to the Ordinariate. Hupfauer's motion was not put to the vote.
