Social Plans: the new 'failure' without an owner

Highlights: Daniel Menéndez, now an official and former piquetero, says they didn't work. The denial of what was once a flag.. "The social plan as a public policy was not requested, it was a response of politics to exclusion," he says. "How can we adhere to and vindicate those who governed 16 of the last 20 years, and at the same time recognize the failure of the main social policy implemented by those administrations?" he asks. "The contradiction, in his case, is neither first nor unique. Menendez is used to standing on both sides of the counter," he adds.

Daniel Menéndez, now an official and former piquetero, says they didn't work. The denial of what was once a flag.

"The social plan as a public policy was not requested, it was a response of politics to exclusion. There have been plans for 20 years and that failed."

Who said it?

The answer, which may seem simple (Milei or a pro-libertarian leader would be the obvious idea), is not so simple. Much more so when the owner of the definition had also said, just three days before: "Twenty years ago, on a new anniversary of the May Revolution, Néstor assumed the presidency restoring hope to millions of Argentines. Let's imitate their example to make Argentina a country with everyone inside."

How can we adhere to and vindicate those who governed 16 of the last 20 years, and at the same time recognize the failure of the main social policy implemented by those administrations? And a second possible question: were not those who governed those responsible for the poverty that is tried to be addressed with the unsuccessful social assistance?

Conceptual and discursive mystery that should be revealed by Daniel Menéndez, secretary of the National Council of Popular Economy and National Coordinator of Somos Barrios de Pie, author, without turning red, of both definitions.

The contradiction, in his case, is neither first nor unique. Menendez is used to standing on both sides of the counter. In the Ministry of Social Development he is responsible for a part of the policy that he himself dismisses, and as National Coordinator of Somos Barrios de Pie he is a beneficiary of the plans he distributes as an official.

More precisely, it should be said that it is on both sides of the Box.

"Social organization is associated with the plan and with intermediation, but we approached the Frente de Todos knowing that the social plan failed as public policy," he said, too. Despite his suspicious look and his awareness of the collapse of social assistance, he did not doubt and seems not to doubt even today, his role in the Ministry.

Like the Spider-Man meme, Menendez points to himself by acknowledging the ineffectiveness of the plans.

Until April 30, Somos Barrios de Pie, the organization he leads; the Evita Movement and the CCC, self-defined as "Los Cayetanos", participated in the distribution of no less than $ 429,306 million, the equivalent of $ 3,577 million per day, destined to the Empower Work plan and the Food Card.

Menéndez's trickery, though extreme, is nevertheless not original. It follows the footsteps of those who were part of the Government during the last four years, and with dialectical gambits they try to detach themselves from the failed experiment. Cristina Kirchner is the first in line, and behind her are Sergio Massa, the Minister of Economy who looks at the 8.4% monthly inflation as if it were someone else's, and Wado De Pedro, the Minister of the Interior who led a massive resignation from the Cabinet to empty Alberto Fernández of power, and from a premature presidential candidacy promises: "Our generation, with Sergio, with Axel (Kicillof), with all the comrades we are going to rethink a new Argentina, rethink new ideas for a new world."

The "I was not" strategy is underway and attempts to deny 1246 days of evidence. Even what, like welfare, was once raised as a flag.
