A terrible accident bruised this Monday, May 29, a Tarn family, originally from a neighboring village of Montauban. Their 10-year-old son was crushed to death by a tree during a bike ride along the canal in Lacourt-Saint-Pierre, reports AFP confirming information from La Dépêche.
A strong wind blew over the entire department at the time of the accident. It lasted no more than a quarter of an hour but uprooted many trees, one of which fell on the young child. Despite the intervention of many rescuers, who came according to La Dépêche from the fire stations of Montauban and Montech, the gendarmerie of Montech and hospital emergencies, the tree could not be moved in time and the child died of his injuries.

The little victim was walking with his mother, stepfather and the daughter of the latter, who were also injured, according to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Tarn-et-Garonne interviewed by France 3 Occitanie. The mayors of Lacourt-Saint-Pierre and Montbeton went to the scene when the accident was announced. The Voies navigables de France, which manages the canal, also visited the accident site.
The prosecutor of Montauban, Bruno Sauvage, announced that an autopsy would be carried out to determine precisely the causes of death. The exact reasons for the fall of the tree and the identity of the owner of the plot will also have to be established.
