The French Communist Party is targeting 10,000 new members by the next party congress in 2026, its leaders announced to the press on Tuesday (May 30th), hoping in particular "to restructure in places abandoned by the left".
«
The PCF is launching a membership campaign from September," said spokesman Ian Brossat. "We are aiming for 10,000 members by the next congress, we are off to a good start," added Léon Deffontaines, who will leave the leadership of the Young Communists on Saturday to take charge of this campaign.
"Re-joining within companies"
To reach this number, the party will dig two furrows in particular. On the one hand, "to rejoin communists within the companies". And this, both in the already existing PCF sections in several public service companies, such as RATP, SNCF or La Poste, and in private companies. On the other hand, the PCF wants to "restructure itself in places abandoned by the left and the public power", where the National Rally prospers, added Léon Deffontaines.

The two officials recalled that the party, which has lost influence and many elected officials in recent decades, had registered 3000,45 members since January. The consequence of the battle of pensions and the notoriety of their national secretary Fabien Roussel, according to them. But "we have not yet counted" the members who left the party at the same time, admitted Léon Deffontaines. The PCF has 000,41 members up to date with contributions, a figure comparable to the Socialist Party and its 000,<> members counted in January.
