Weilheim – The primary school at Hardt can now look back on 50 years. A lot has happened since the 70s – both structurally and pedagogically.

To celebrate, the school held an open day last week. After school, it was therefore bustling with children and adults on the school grounds. They chased across the sports field, did handicrafts on outdoor beer benches or played in the building. Many a person who has been to this school himself will certainly have noticed when strolling through the grounds that a lot has changed.

The school was built in 1972. The educational building even received an architecture prize at the time. A wide variety of forms of teaching were provided: from individual cabins to small group rooms to large rooms that could be used for cross-class teaching. Carpets and a special lighting concept throughout the school building were completely new.

Not only the building was quite modern by the standards of the time. Relatively new methods such as control loop learning or modularization of core subjects were also used in the classroom. Teaching materials for experimentation and vivid learning were also not to be missed.

A lot has changed over the decades. For example, the mobile walls were dismantled for noise protection reasons, the individual workstations disappeared and the small group rooms were increasingly assigned to differentiation and subject teaching.

The increasing number of pupils meant that it was slowly becoming tight. In 2007, two more classrooms were added to the west. A complete renewal took place in 2010. The entire building has been thoroughly renovated and upgraded in terms of energy efficiency. In addition to the complete outer shell, the ceilings, the insulation of the roof and floor area, the electrical system, heating, ventilation and technical equipment were renewed. Most of the work was completed at the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year.

The work was noticeable both from the outside and inside. The school got a new look. But this will also change again. In the meantime, an open all-day school has been added and the number of children is also growing. Therefore, plans are currently underway for another expansion of the school (we reported).
