Washington, Brussels, Moscow and now... Chisinau. A new round of negotiations between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev will take place this Thursday afternoon in Moldova, on the margins of the European Political Community summit. At the end of last week, after a difficult meeting in the Kremlin between the leaders of the two warring countries, the Elysee refused to confirm the holding of this new meeting. As they did in Prague in October 2022, Emmanuel Macron and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, will play mediators. And, for the first time, Olaf Scholz will also take part in the discussions. "It was a request from Emmanuel Macron," says a senior EU official.
The presence of the German Chancellor could help reassure the leader of Azerbaijan at a time when the France is considered too close to Armenia. Not to mention that Baku did not appreciate the president's remarks...
