Chemnitz – Seven children were injured in a traffic accident in Chemnitz on Tuesday afternoon. Between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., an 83-year-old raced his car into the group of a daycare center.
The driver of the car, a pensioner, is said to have crashed into the curb and then lost control of his car, reports the German Press Agency. The car spun around its own axis and hit the pavement. Police do not believe that the man intentionally drove into the children's group.

According to figures from the Federal Statistical Office, senior citizens have a disproportionately low involvement in accidents, but the EU is still planning to limit the duration of driving licences from the age of 70. Seniors would then have to prove a driving fitness test every five years. This is already the case in five European countries.
