Update from May 25th: On Thursday, the "Last Generation" paralyzed some roads in Austria again. In the morning, activists climbed onto a bridge over the south-east bypass (A23) and glued themselves to the roadway. Other members of the group stopped traffic with cars, reports oe24. The activists again demanded: 100 km/h on the highway and a ban on new oil and gas drilling. There was a traffic jam with a length of about twelve kilometers.
One Twitter user promptly made fun of the demands. 100 km/h while sitting on the southeast tangent? They demand "23 km/h on the A100, while 80 km/h applies there," he commented. In fact, on the A23, as is customary for motorways in Vienna, there is a speed limit of 80 for cars. Outside Vienna, the limit is 130 kilometers per hour.
"Last Generation" changes strategy in Austria: Nationwide actions from Friday
After the protests in Vienna and Innsbruck, there is still no sigh of relief for residents of Austria. You have to expect further traffic jams due to the "last generation". Climate gluer Martha Krumpeck announced to heute.at a "breather" for the capital, but the group now wants to expand the actions nationwide. According to the announcement on Twitter, an action in Graz is planned for Friday. It was not yet known whether other cities would be affected.

On Tuesday morning (23 May), activists of the "Last Generation" protested in Innsbruck with a so-called sit-in. With their action, they drew the ire of three people, as the APA news agency reported. As a result, the police stated that two people had been loudly upset about the protest. Another poured a yogurt over an activist's head. All three people received a complaint.

The activists should clear the streets, he demanded. "What about you?" he added, apparently angrily. The cars would have been parked for an hour. Shortly thereafter, police officers can be seen intervening. The activists commented on the video with the words: "What do these people do when our harvests fail more and more often or we run out of drinking water?"
Austria: Climate activists paralyze air traffic – effects into the evening
Switzerland was also affected by climate protests. With actions at Geneva airport, climate activists caused disruptions to air traffic for about an hour on Tuesday (23 May). Dozens of people occupied the tarmac around noon. Activists chained themselves to planes, as the Keystone-SDA news agency reported on site. As a result, according to a press release, air traffic was completely suspended from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m.
It continued: "Seven flights were diverted to Zurich and Lyon airports. Significant delays are expected for continued operations until late in the evening, with possible exceptions so that the last flights can reach Geneva in the evening. Some flight cancellations cannot be ruled out."

Climate protest at Geneva airport: company makes fun of activists
On Twitter, the action caused a lot of resentment. "Damn pig pack" or "What doesn't suit the whiners again?" were some of the comments. But the airport also had to take criticism. "How do they even get on the tarmac?" one asked. Another wrote: "This sight makes me feel very safe the next time I fly!"
However, one company did not miss the opportunity to make fun of the activists. "Hey activists and climate activists who are paralyzing the whole Geneva airport right now: If you are really serious about fighting climate change with solutions, then become an engineer," it wrote. It posted a picture with the words: "You want to fight the climate crisis without going to jail? Then you've come to the right place!"
According to the environmental protection organization Greenpeace, the action was aimed at an aircraft show for business jets, which is taking place in Geneva until Thursday (25 May). "A small group of the super-rich is putting an excessive burden on the climate and the environment," said Greenpeace representative Agnes Jezler.
