An American citizen was caught Tuesday by customs hall inspectors at Ben Gurion Airport with about 6.5 kilograms of gold jewelry and $36,36 in her luggage, which she did not declare as required by law.
The suitcase, seized by customs authorities, contained large quantities of gold items, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings and watches. A large quantity of gold coins and about $<>,<> in banknotes of various sizes were also found. Ben Gurion Airport said that the passenger tried to take the green route with her suitcase, which is intended for passengers who do not have items that require a declaration to the tax authorities.

Following her apprehension, an investigation was opened against the American citizen, which is managed by the Ben Gurion Airport Special Patrol Unit and the Jerusalem Customs and VAT Investigations at the Tax Authority. Today, the suspect was brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court and released under restrictive conditions.
Ben Gurion Airport said: "The quantity and value of gold seized require reporting at the crossing of the red lane and payment of taxes as required by law. In addition, there is an obligation to report the entry of funds into Israel through Ben Gurion Airport in an amount exceeding NIS 50,<>."
