Highlights: After the traffic chaos on Easter Monday, a one-way street regulation on Madeleine-Ruoff-Straße applied for the first time for the duration of the beach market in Herrsching last Whitsun weekend. The police think: "A success." The next market, the night market, will take place from 8 to 15 August. The municipality is grateful for suggestions by e-mail to t.marchetto@herrsching.de. The event organizer Gerd Jansohn found "normal weekend traffic in good weather"

After the traffic chaos on Easter Monday, a one-way street regulation on Madeleine-Ruoff-Straße applied for the first time for the duration of the beach market in Herrsching last Whitsun weekend. The police think: "A success."

Herrsching – At the Easter market on the promenade in Herrsching, chaotic traffic conditions had prevailed on the streets of the Ammersee community near the shore. At the suggestion of the police, all parties involved had agreed on a one-way street regulation from Madeleine-Ruoff-Straße 11 to the north for the duration of the next market activity (we reported). To ensure that this rule is adhered to for the duration of the market, organizer Gerd Jansohn had assigned two security guards who kindly pointed out to motorists and cyclists that the rule had been observed.

After the beach market, which ended on Whit Monday, Jansohn is thrilled: "The one-way street was the brilliant idea of all." Residents came to him and thanked him. "Of course, there are always people who can't be pleased," Jansohn admits. But they were the exception.

Unlike on the crowded Easter Monday, this time there was "normal weekend traffic in good weather", the event organizer found. "It was all civilized." This was also said by Mayor Christian Schiller, who himself was once stuck in a backlog on Rieder Straße, but blamed this circumstance on the barrier. "If there are additional shunting operations, it is always the case that the barriers close every ten minutes for a short time." It is much more important to him to be able to ensure that ambulances can always get through. This is not a problem on Rieder Straße, "which is wide enough". This time, however, this was also possible on Madeleine-Ruoff-Straße, which was not the case on Easter Monday. He is pleased that this works with the temporary one-way rule.

Herrsching's police deputy Christian Schäffler is also satisfied with the Starnberger Merkur. Colleagues of his had been privately and on business in Herrsching on the beach market. "It was busy, but it was all orderly." He considers the idea of a one-way street to be a complete success. "Thumbs up" also comes from the municipal traffic monitoring department, for which Silvia Mack works. Only the signage is in need of improvement. "Just a few little things", otherwise she was satisfied. "The stewards at the beginning of the one-way street were important. But it worked really well with them."

Mayor Schiller sent out an invitation to a debriefing with the police and organizers yesterday. He assumes that the one-way rule will remain in place on market days. This will not keep traffic out of Herrsching, but it will keep escape routes clear. And that's what it's all about. Also at the next market, the night market. It will take place from 8 to 15 August. The municipality is grateful for suggestions by e-mail to t.marchetto@herrsching.de.
