The IPS parole board on Wednesday rejected terrorist Walid Daka's request to be released from prison due to his deteriorating medical condition, which is currently terminal. Daka was convicted of murdering the soldier Moshe Tamam in 1984. Former President Shimon Peres reduced his sentence to 37 years, and after a conviction for smuggling a mobile phone, two more years were added.

Dozens of people, including members of the Tamam family, demonstrated this morning in front of Ma'ayahu Prison in Ramle, demanding that Daqa not be released. Shai Tamam, the niece of soldier Moshe Tamam, told Israel Hayom: "We demand that Walid Daka breathe his last breath in prison. This is not a war of the Tamam family, this is a war of the entire nation of Israel, of anyone who does not want a terrorist with blood on his hands, imbued with revenge and hatred, to walk around in his midst, when his child goes to the mall or rides the bus, of anyone who does not want him to be hurt. I call on all citizens of Israel to join our struggle."

Tamam was abducted and murdered by a squad of Israeli Arab terrorists from Baqa al-Garbia, who belonged to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. In August 1984, while on his way to Tel Aviv, Tamam hitched a ride at the Beit Lid junction. In the car were the four terrorists who first imprisoned him and eventually murdered him and left his body in the Mevo Dotan area in northern Samaria. Tamam's body was discovered two days later.
The four terrorists were apprehended and sentenced to life imprisonment. In April 2021, after 35 years in prison, Roshi Abu Mukh, one of the squad members, was released. The liberation celebrations held in Baqa al-Gharbiya after his return there drew sharp public criticism.
