A radio journalist was shot dead outside his home on Wednesday (31 May) in the central Philippines, police said, in a country where the media are regularly the target of assassinations and intimidation.
Cresenciano Bunduquin, 50, was killed by gunmen riding a motorcycle in Calapan, Eastern Mindoro province, police Col. Samuel Delorino told AFP. One of the killers was killed by Cresenciano Bunduquin's son who hit him with his car as he fled the crime scene. "The other suspect was able to escape. The pursuit operation is ongoing," Colonel Delorino added.
Cresenciano Bunduquin is the third journalist killed in the Philippines since President Ferdinand Marcos Jr came to power in June 2022. On 3 October, radio journalist Percival Mabasa was shot dead on his way to his studio on his way to his studio.
