A bear stuck in the back seat of a car was freed by police officers in the western United States late last week. Alerted to rescue the animal in distress, officers from the sheriff's office in Washoe, Nevada, had to improvise. And use a rope to avoid ending up between his legs...

The black bear had managed to climb into the vehicle, parked in a parking lot. He was probably looking for food, but became trapped when the door closed.

To deliver it, an officer carefully tied a rope around the door handle, according to a video posted Sunday on social media. Once under cover, he pulled on this improvised cable and the bear immediately fled into the woods without asking for his remainder.

The plantigrade apparently seemed rather badly licked: frustrated by his confinement, he left behind a torn cockpit, completely shredded.

Black bears, the most common species in North America, can weigh up to 270 kg. Endowed with a powerful sense of smell, these omnivores can smell food from far away, which sometimes causes them to interact with humans.

"Avoid leaving food in cars"

"Spring is an active time (...) and it's worth remembering to watch out for bears when enjoying nature," the Washoe County Sheriff's Office said on Twitter. "Watch out for food packaging, coolers and scented objects in vehicles. Avoid leaving food in cars. (...) Don't feed the bears! " he added.
