Kaufbeuren – Unusual operation on Wednesday afternoon for the fire brigade in the old town of Kaufbeuren: Instead of a cat on the tree or other four-legged friends on the wrong track, this time it was about a swarm of bees. The pedestrian zone was closed for a good hour because of the operation.
The twelve firefighters had a lot of spectators during their animal operation in the pedestrian zone. In a niche between two converging roofs, a swarm of bees with around 30,000 bees that had settled here had to be removed.
The latter was carried out by a commissioned beekeeper, who was driven up and supported by the fire brigade with the turntable ladder. The expert took care of the bees and brought them to a safe place at dusk, the fire brigade reports on request.
As Susanne Gentz from the Kaufbeurer public order office explains to the district messenger, she had received several reports of bees at the level of the Fielmann branch. This is not unusual for this time of year, but because of the central square with many passers-by, the city did not want to take any risks, says Gentz. After an inspection, the public order office decided to close the Schmiedgasse.
The pedestrian zone was closed for about an hour. An ambulance on standby was also requested for protection, but fortunately did not have to intervene.
