Essen – Schlager singer Peter Maffay (73) can be found in an unusual place today, Wednesday (31 May). From 18 p.m., fans can experience the star up close – at the checkout at the Netto discounter.
Peter Maffay: Rounding up for his foundation
The rocker will "volunteer at the cash register" at Heßler Straße 18 in Essen from 9 p.m., as announced on his social media accounts. He is happy "about every rounding up for his foundation". The background to the campaign: From May 29 to September 3, all donations at Netto will go to the singer's foundation. The charity, which also bears the name of Peter Maffay, is committed to helping children who are in need.
According to a press release, the food retailer supports the Peter Maffay Foundation and its Tabaluga houses "together with the deposit and cash donations of its customers". "The houses offer socially disadvantaged and traumatized children and young people a break from everyday life in a natural environment."

"It is a matter close to my heart to enable disadvantaged children and young people to have positive experiences," Peter Maffay is quoted as saying in the press release. In the Tabaluga houses, they could escape from everyday life. "I am delighted that Netto is once again helping with the cash and deposit donations of its customers." Peter Maffay can currently be seen live on stage. On June 2, the singer will play in Gelsenkirchen, followed by concerts in Freiburg, Kempten and Coburg. Maffay will also be performing in Switzerland (Murten, Locarno) and Luxembourg (Esch/Alzette) this year.
