In May 2023, 4946 people were out of work in the district of Munich. This was 137 people or 2.7 percent less than in the previous month. This is reported by the Munich Employment Agency in its monthly report.
County - Compared to May 2022, 406 more people registered as unemployed (8.9 percent). The unemployment rate was 2.5 percent (-0.1 percent). In the district's job center, the number of unemployment registrations has remained almost the same. For example, the number of those who are looked after by the job center of the district of Munich (SGB II) was 2221. This was 12 fewer people (0.5 percent) than in the previous month and 388 more than in May 2022. The rate remained unchanged at 1.1 percent (prior-year month: 0.9 percent).
Late start to the spring upswing
"This year, we are noticing a late start to the spring upswing," says Wilfried Hüntelmann, Chairman of the Management Board of the Munich Employment Agency, commenting on the figures. "In April, unemployment rose again – unusually for the season. In May, companies started hiring more again."
