The Argentine tennis player Pedro Cachín ended his passage through the Roland Garros singles tournament on Thursday when he was eliminated by the Croatian Borna Coric in five sets, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6 and 6-3 and 6-4. In this way, there will be no Argentine duel in the third round despite the classification of Tomás Etcheverry.
Always supported by Argentine fans, the world number 64 put up a tenacious resistance against his rival, better placed on the list and who seeks to return to the forefront of world tennis after a shoulder injury that prevented him from playing for a full year until March 2022.
The match lasted for 4 hours and 23 minutes, and one of the keys was in the almost eternal ninth game of the fourth set, which had a break point and four set points for the Croatian, who finally managed to score the game and the sleeve. In the fifth, meanwhile, Cachín had a 3-1 advantage and the chance to get 4-2 but ended up losing 6-4.
The game on court 6 was starred by the strong blows from the bottom of the court that both players exchanged during much of their development, sometimes with long exchanges of two-handed backhands.
The good news for Cachín, who could not improve on what he did in 2022 (when he was eliminated by Frenchman Hugo Gastón in the second round) is that he will continue in Paris because he continues in the doubles tournament, in which he has qualified for the second round with China's Yibing Wu.
Coric, meanwhile, will face another Argentine, the aforementioned Etcheverry, who gave a surprise by getting rid of Australian Alex de Minaur in three sets.
