The conviction against José López, the former Secretary of Public Works of the government of Cristina Kirchner, for illicit enrichment was firm on Thursday, after the Supreme Court of Justice rejected appeals from his defense.
López, who gained fame for being seen throwing bags with dollars inside a convent in 2016 and who was one of the few K officials that the current vice president considered corrupt, had been sentenced in 2018 to seven years and six months in prison.
The former official – whose chats contributed to the conviction against Kirchner in the Vialidad case – was investigated for his meteoric patrimonial growth and because he could not explain the origin of those 9 million dollars that he threw to the residence of nuns of General Rodríguez on June 14, 2016, when he was immortalized in a video that was emblematic of Kirchnerist corruption in public works.
