Paris Saint-Germain was concerned on Thursday to go out to correct the statements of the coach of his first team, Christophe Galtier, and said that the coach "expressed badly" when he confirmed that this Saturday's game, against Clermont, will be Lionel Messi's last at the Parc des Princes.
According to the Parisian club, Galtier's words refer to a last game "this season", as confirmed to the EFE agency sources of the PSG.
The clarification of PSG, however, does not necessarily confirm the permanence of Messi - who ends contract on June 30 - in the French capital, although he has an additional season in option.
A few hours earlier, asked by the media about the situation of the Argentine striker in a press conference, Galtier had responded without doubt that the match against Clermont, in what will be the last day of the Ligue 1 of France, will be the last of La Pulga in the PSG stadium.
"I have had the privilege of managing the best player in the history of football," said the coach.
Messi arrived at PSG in August 2021 with a two-season contract plus a third option. After the World Cup in Qatar, it seemed that the player and the club would activate that additional year, but in recent weeks the positions were distancing.
The 35-year-old, seven-time Ballon d'Or and world champion with Argentina in 2022, is considering several offers, including a pharaonic one from Saudi Arabia, the biggest contract in football history. But there are other options, such as signing for Inter Miami. In addition, as Clarín was able to find out, he would have a proposal from a European club that is not Barcelona, which for now did not make any formal approach and is still handcuffed because of its financial setbacks.
