Highlights: Rabbi Shmuley Boteach: "When a person ascends and ascends, he brings himself to the highest levels" "The good and the evil inclination are like two enemies who quarrel all the time," he says. "When one sees that he is about to lose and fail, he gathers forces above nature" "When the other sees that there is no reality that the High Priest will not fall, that is a miracle," he adds, "and that is the way it should be"

Rabbi Pinto was preparing in his final lesson for the portion of Ba'aleich, which we will read this coming Shabbat in the synagogue, when he brought Rashi's words

This Shabbat, we will read in the synagogue the portion of Ba'aleich, in which the holy Torah tells us about Aaron Hacohen who used to light the menorah every day.

Rabbi Pinto cited Rashi's words in his shiur instead of saying: To say the praise of Aharon who did not sleep.

Rabbi Pinto continued in his lesson:

Let's come and ask what kind of wa amina we have that Aaron Hacohen is asleep from what G-d commanded him, G-d commanded how to light the menorah, lighting the menorah in the Tabernacle was a very uplifting and great thing for all the people of Israel, when Aaron would light the menorah he would lift all the souls of the people of Israel with him to the highest levels, So what praise does the Torah give to Aaron for not sleeping?

So maybe we can interpret and say, the Mishnah says (Avot 5:5) Ten miracles were done to our forefathers in the Temple. And there was no Kerry High Priest on Yom Kippur. The fact that the High Priest did not see Kerry on Yom Kippur is one of the miracles done to our forefathers in the Temple. Maksha Tosefot Yom Tov So there is a miracle in this, after all, seven days before Yom Kippur the High Priest would be removed from his home, he would not eat meat and drink wine, he would be cut off from the whole world. All day long they would sit and talk to him holy and exalted things and priestly flowers would read to him in the Book of Lamentations and in books that would subdue his heart, so how would he get to Kerry, after all, in a way that there is no reality that will reach Keri, so why does the Torah count this as one of the ten miracles that were done to our forefathers in the Temple?

Rather, he excuses Yom Tov and says, the good inclination and the evil inclination are like two enemies who quarrel all the time, and whenever one of them sees that he is about to lose and fail, he gathers forces above nature to fight with the other. The same is true on Yom Kippur, the evil inclination when it sees the work of Yom Kippur and the people of Israel rising and ascending and reaching high and holy levels, it gathers enormous forces to thwart the High Priest, so not having Kerry go out to serve on Yom Kippur is a miracle above nature, because according to nature, Kerry should not go out to serve as High Priest because he guards himself very much. But on the other hand, the evil inclination comes with forces above nature that there is no reality not to fall, and then G-d performs a miracle that the High Priest will not fail Keri.

That a person ascends and ascends brings himself to the highest levels (Photo: ShutterStock)

So we see here a great element: when a person ascends and ascends, brings himself to the highest levels, the evil inclination comes with forces above nature to miss and fail man. And in order to be saved from such a situation, a miracle is needed, because when the evil inclination sees that it is losing, it comes with supernatural forces.

This can also be interpreted by Aharon Hacohen, lighting the menorah is something very high that lifts all the souls of the people of Israel and brings them to the highest and holiest levels, and therefore the evil inclination would come with the strongest forces to fail Aaron whenever he lit the menorah. It teaches that he did not sleep, with all that the evil inclination would come with supernatural powers to fail Aaron, Aaron did not sleep and remained in holiness and purity and did not fall under the advice of the evil inclination.

And from here we will learn a great foundation for a person's life, when a person begins to rise and cling to G-d, builds a new path for himself and begins to follow a good path in Torah study, livelihood, domestic peace, friendship with people and in every aspect of life, the evil inclination sees that something good is building and begins to take shape and it comes with strong forces above nature that need a miracle not to fall and fail under the advice of the evil inclination. And in order to stand up and merit this, you need prayers, submission of the heart and devotion to Hashem.
