Unemployment figures have been falling since the beginning of the year: the labour market in the Freising district remains stable

Good news from the labour market: In the district of Freising, the positive development continues.

District – The positive trend on the regional labour market continued in May 2023: The Employment Agency counted a total of 8704 unemployed people in the districts of Dachau, Ebersberg, Erding and Freising. This was 248 fewer people compared to the previous month. The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to a current level of 2.3 percent.

"Since the beginning of the year, we have been registering constantly falling unemployment figures and a falling unemployment rate in our agency district," says Katja Kürmaier, deputy head of the Freising Employment Agency. "We are pleased that, despite economic challenges, the regional labour market continues to be robust and, above all, receptive."

In May, 2644 people were able to end their unemployment. At the same time, 2400 women and men registered as newly unemployed at their employment agency – 283 fewer people compared to the previous month. "The renewed decline in the number of unemployed in May speaks for stability in the region. In addition, we are reported to have an unchanged high demand for labor and skilled workers, which extends across many industries and occupational areas," says Katja Kürmaier.

Personnel demand

In May, the companies informed the employment agency about 837 new jobs to be filled in the four districts. A total of 6427 job offers were recently in the job pool of the Freising Employment Agency. A closer look at the figures reveals that companies are primarily looking for well-trained workers: With 5282 jobs, around 82 percent of the reported job offers are aimed at skilled workers. 1145 of the vacancies are offers in the helper sector. The Freising Employment Agency supports the demand for skilled workers with a wide range of qualifications and further training. "We advise companies individually on the qualification needs of employees and also provide financial relief for further training projects – for example, by covering course costs or paying out wage subsidies. Companies and employees can act flexibly when it comes to carrying out the qualifications. This applies equally to the care sector, to the areas of warehousing and production, to craft professions or to the commercial sector," explains Katja Kürmaier.

Apprenticeship market

An indispensable pillar for securing the demand for skilled workers is the initial training of young people. Thus, in the career guidance year 2022/2023, the companies in the agency district are once again characterized by a high willingness to train: Between October 2022 and May 2023, the companies reported 3096 vacancies to the Employment Agency in the districts of Ebersberg, Erding, Dachau and Freising. That was 197 more jobs than in the same period a year ago. At the same time, 2249 young people looking for training took advantage of the vocational guidance services, 113 fewer than in the previous year. By May, 1315 of the young people had been able to develop career or school prospects. However, 934 people were still looking for an apprenticeship.

The chances of obtaining a suitable apprenticeship in the region are still very good: In May, 1626 of the apprenticeships registered with the Employment Agency were vacant. We are currently looking for junior staff for a wide variety of professions and industries: retail clerks as well as salespeople, trade specialists, office management or wholesale management clerks, warehouse logistics specialists or dental assistants. There are also still apprenticeships available in the skilled trades. District of Freising

A total of 2914 people were registered as unemployed at the Freising Employment Agency in May, 96 fewer women and men than in April 2023. According to the agency, the unemployment rate for the district fell by 0.1 points to a current value of 2.6 percent.

The companies recently informed the employer service of the Freising Employment Agency about 356 new jobs to be filled in the district. This means that there were a total of 2195 vacancies in the job pool of the Employment Agency in May.

Interim result

According to the agency report, eight months have passed since the start of the career guidance year on October 1, 2022. During this time, the companies reported 1157 training places to be filled in the district. That was 124 more jobs compared to the same period last year. 574 training places were still vacant in May. At the same time, 782 young people interested in training took advantage of the counselling services offered by the Employment Agency (23 more than in the same period last year).
