A woman goes to the doctor with back pain. There she gets a shocking diagnosis – and can't celebrate her wedding.
Munich/Wolverhampton – There are few people in the world who have never struggled with back pain in their lives. In most cases, misalignments, pinched nerves or lack of exercise are the reason for the suffering. Sandra Jones from Wolverhampton may have expected similar reasons when the pain moved into her back. But it turned out that the problems are directly related to terminal cancer, as the Birmingham Mail reported. Now the woman and her brother want to draw attention to the fate of the sick and warn other people.
Shortly before her wedding: Woman goes to the doctor with back pain – and receives cancer diagnosis
Actually, Jones and her family were presumably facing the best time of their lives. Her fiancé Adam had already proposed to her on a family holiday together. The joint plan was to celebrate a dream wedding in Greece soon. But when Jones went to the doctor with back pain, she received the shocking diagnosis: bone cancer – especially the spine was affected. In Reedsburg (USA), too, a tragic drama occurred shortly before a wedding.

This brings back an illness to Jones that she had already defeated elsewhere. According to the family, she received the news seven years to the day after she was told she had breast cancer. At that time, the mother of two had conquered the disease. This time, however, according to her doctors' assessments, it is unlikely to go that way, and a renewed defeat of the disease is considered unlikely. Apparently, the cancer has already spread. Her brother Neil describes, "They didn't give her a time frame, but we know it's fatal."
Because of cancer: Woman has to cancel her own dream wedding in Greece
That's why the dream wedding in Greece planned for June has now been cancelled. Instead, the family organized a small ceremony in the UK. "They will get married on the same day, but in a small ceremony at the registry office," explains Brother Neil. "It will be their 16th anniversary. They were supposed to go to Greece, but they had to cancel it, but they still want to get married." Most recently, a tragic incident occurred at a noble wedding when the bride collapsed.
Man raises thousands of British pounds for cancer-stricken sister with fundraising campaign
Now it is particularly important to make it as easy as possible for Jones, who is suffering from cancer. This requires many adjustments in her house – both changes in the bathroom and a stair lift. Brother Neil has already raised over £6000,<> with a GoFundMe campaign. "It's incredible and I was so overwhelmed by the generosity of the people."
Her brother describes, "Sandra is one of the loosest people you can ever meet, she never puts herself above others and has always found a positive attitude in everything she does," further explaining, "She was battling cancer for the first time and refused to let it stop her from raising her family and giving her children the best start in life. Now, at only 39 years old, she has to prepare for another fight."
What are the symptoms of bone cancer?
According to the German Cancer Society, the symptoms of bone cancer differ depending on the tumor location and place of origin. However, general pain in the affected area is the first sign of bone cancer. "In the case of primary bone cancer, swelling usually follows, which can lead to a restriction of mobility in the case of a proximity to the joints," it says on the company's website.
Bone cancers: osteosarcoma, chondrosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma
It is important to distinguish between different types of cancer. In the case of so-called osteosarcoma, long bones of the extremities are predominantly affected. Most often, this form of the disease occurs above or below the knee joint, as well as at the upper end of the humerus. Even slight force can lead to bone fractures in affected areas. These are also known as pathological fractures.
So-called chondrosarcomas would most often occur in the pelvis, thigh and shoulder area. The best-known symptoms of this are pain and increasing swelling. The third type of bone cancer is the so-called Ewing sarcomas, which would be accompanied by pain, swelling, fever and a general feeling of illness. Most often, these occur on long tubular bones of the legs and pelvis.
Early detection and prevention of bone cancer
According to the German Cancer Society, early detection of bone cancer is extremely difficult, "since the causes of bone cancer are not known, there is no recommendation for measures to reduce the risk of developing a primary bone tumor." A healthy, balanced lifestyle would avoid the known risk factors for cancer, such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
It is particularly important that a doctor is consulted at an early stage in the event of new symptoms in order to be able to rule out the rather rare diagnosis of a tumor disease or to make it at an early stage. As a rule, the prognosis is then more favorable.
