The fire brigade hopes for a far-reaching easing of the situation with the forest fire near Jüterbog. Head of operations Rico Valentin said the two firefighting aircraft should remain in use until the evening hours. "Our hope is that then nothing more can happen and there will be no further spread." He hoped that the mission could be completed in the evening.
Jüterbog - That depends on the success of the firefighting aircraft.
On Friday, the operation focused on three fire sites with a total area of around 8000 square meters. "You have to think of it as a big campfire at three different points," Valentin said.
According to the district of Teltow-Fläming, a total of around 35 hectares have been affected since the outbreak of the fire on Wednesday evening. The fire brigade could not extinguish from the ground because the area is contaminated with old ammunition. It is a former military training area.
"I am very pleased that we were able to act quickly and efficiently with the use of the firefighting aircraft," said District Administrator Kornelia Wehlan (Left), according to a statement. "The aim was to avoid a major disaster like in 2019, when a total of 750 hectares burned on this site." The district administrator, who was on site on Friday, thanked all the emergency services. Dpa
