Landkreis/Gilching - The initiative "Dementia-friendly municipality" wants to actively contribute to the creation of a dementia-friendly environment in the district of Starnberg. For this reason, an information afternoon with an interactive dementia course will take place on 15 June in Gilching Town Hall.

The theme of the information afternoon on Thursday from 15 p.m. to 18 p.m. in the meeting room is "In the middle of life with dementia". There will also be an interactive dementia course.

"We encounter people with dementia everywhere in our everyday lives. Whether in the neighborhood, while shopping or withdrawing money at the bank," explains Bettina Hartwanger from the specialist office for senior citizens at the Starnberg district office. "By a dementia-friendly environment we mean a community in which it is possible to live well with and for people with dementia and their relatives and in which participation in the midst of society is possible. This also means that as many people as possible are informed about the disease and sensitized to its peculiarities."

In addition to a lecture starting at 16:30 p.m. with information on the clinical picture and tips on how to deal with people with dementia, there will be the opportunity before and after the lecture to learn in an interactive dementia course what it is like to no longer be able to implement simple actions when the familiar no longer wants to succeed, when despair makes you angry or when all efforts are unsuccessful.
