Some municipal by-laws make you smile more than others. The mayor of Malemort (Corrèze), Laurent Darthou, signed on May 10 a decree "prohibiting sardine fishing during the Festi'Malemort of July 7 and 8, 2023", in the portion of the Corrèze river that crosses the city. The humorous decree justifies this ban by explaining that "sardine fishing in the Corrèze river on our territory would compromise the smooth running of these festivities".
In his decision, however, the Corrèze mayor maliciously states that "the omega 3 sardines tight at the bottom of a can have many benefits and that they contribute to the proper functioning of our metabolism". In case they have loaded a fishing rod in their backpack, festival-goers are warned.
