Should the Bürgerbahnhof in Penzberg cost rent in the future, similar to the club room in the town hall? This proposal now came from the ranks of the SPD. So far, the former waiting room in the Penzberg train station has been free of charge for event organizers.

Penzberg – The Bürgerbahnhof has been in existence since the end of June 2022. It is free of charge for organisers, whether they are clubs, theatre groups, parties or other organisers. Now there is a proposal that the city of Penzberg should charge a rent for the use of the Bürgerbahnhof. The idea was expressed by city council member Thomas Keller (SPD) in the course of the discussion about new rental and usage regulations for the town hall and the music school center "Metropol".

"Work with the same measure at the Bürgerbahnhof"

Keller explained to the Finance and Social Committee that the Bürgerbahnhof should be handled in a similar way to the club room of the Stadthalle. According to the new rental regulations, the club room in the town hall costs 20 euros rent for non-profit associations and initiatives, local political associations and local groups, and 80 euros for everyone else. He is a fan of the Stadthalle and thinks it's a shame that the club room loses because you have to pay rent there, Keller said. "You should work with the same standard at the Bürgerbahnhof." It would be unfair to continue offering it for free. Christine Geiger (CSU) jumped to his side. At least for the utilities you should charge a little something, she said.

Encouragement is limited

Thomas Kapfer-Arrington, head of the cultural office, was not very enthusiastic. Last April, he had already said in an interview with the local newspaper when asked that if it were up to him, the Bürgerbahnhof could continue to be booked free of charge. Previously, a discussion in the city council had given the impression that something could change. The specific proposal to demand rent was not made at that time.

In the Finance and Social Committee, Kapfer-Arrington said that the club room in the town hall did not suffer "to any extent" from the Bürgerbahnhof in terms of occupancy figures. He also explained that the Bürgerbahnhof is also based on a different concept. The user should leave it as he finds it. "It works." He himself checks regularly outside of his working hours, i.e. on a voluntary basis, and sometimes he also cleans up. So there would be no costs.

Make "considerations" at a later date

But the idea was not off the table. It will apparently be discussed again at a later date. Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) suggested that after a one-year period, "considerations" should be made as to whether, for example, rent will be demanded from commercial users. Kapfer-Arrington could imagine doing the same for users who are not from Penzberg.

City Council sets rental regulations for Stadthalle and Metropol

In the meantime, the Penzberg city council has approved the new rental and usage regulations for the Stadthalle and the "Metropol". In both cases, there are several tariffs. A distinction is made, for example, as to whether the tenants are companies or non-profit Penzberg associations. In the case of the "Metropol", for example, the hall costs between 750 and 100 euros in rent. The use of the foyer, on the other hand, is 80 euros for all users. It's a similar story with the town hall. There, the large hall costs between 750 and 100 euros in rent, depending on the tariff. If you also use the stage, you have to add 50 euros, except for the lowest tariff, which applies to local non-profit associations and local political groups. The two rental and usage regulations were unanimously adopted by the city council.
