The primary school on Friedenstraße in Ottobrunn has to be rebuilt and prepared for all-day operation. However, the schoolyard, trees and school garden are to be preserved.
Ottobrunn – The municipality of Ottobrunn needs to create more all-day places. In the next three years, the primary school on Friedenstraße will also be converted into an all-day school. By the 2026/2027 school year, the primary school is expected to offer 400 all-day places. The architectural competition begins in the summer.
Mayor has clear conditions
The criteria for the planning drafts are determined by the municipal administration. This leads to various debates in the municipal council. For Mayor Thomas Loderer (CSU) it is clear: The Maria-Schreiner-Wiese must be preserved and it must not fail because of the trees in the school garden. Fundamentally, the community with headmistress Gesine Clotz has decided against a bound all-day program. Flexibility for parents is probably the most important argument. As a result, all classes in the new all-day school will have the optional offer of all-day care. This has an impact on the planning of the room concept.
Four learning houses and different mixes of classes are planned. There should be an open marketplace where all classes come together. "We consciously want to take students out of the school context," says Loderer. The architects will be guided by the pedagogical concept and functionally connect the rooms with each other. Now the goal is to write a tender text by the end of July in order to then start the call for tenders for the architectural competition.
Gymnasium and daycare children's world are to be retained
The gymnasium in the north and the daycare children's world in Gartenstraße are to be retained at all costs. In particular, the areas of the kindergarten would definitely be needed. In addition, the Maria-Schreiner-Wiese is to remain as a schoolyard. "I strongly recommend that you do not overbuild this meadow," emphasizes Loderer. "I couldn't support such a decision." The area is to be preserved as an important urban development area in the future. In addition, although development is not impossible, it is trivial under building law and means a longer procedure.
Another sticking point is the school garden. The garden is visibly characterized by the trees, which should therefore be preserved as much as possible. "The school garden is of great importance for school life," says Loderer. "But we should not see the preservation of the trees as an exclusion criterion."
Garden or sports field on the gym roof
This leads to discussions in the municipal council. In particular, there is opposition from the ranks of the Greens. But Loderer also expressly recommends keeping a back door open for the design. In addition, other options might arise. Part of the competition task is to plan a double gymnasium sunk into the ground in the southern area of the school. The construction of this double gymnasium is to take place at a later date. In the future, it will be possible to have an additional area for a sports field or a garden.
